  • STANDARDS!   the Toronto monthly club night started by indie record label owners, record collectors and veteran club DJ’s: Davy Love (Magnificent Sevens/Blowup) and Linda Noelle Bush (New Romantic) will be celebrating their one year milestone on Saturday, April 2nd. They plan to celebrate with a special party featuring guest DJ’s Jay Ferguson (Sloan) and Ronnie Morris (Lioness) plus some other cool surprises.   STANDARDS! is one of Toronto’s best-kept-secrets; a dance parties aimed at the 26+ crowd. The club was launched by Davy & Linda on April Fool’s day 2010 at The Piston to about 75 of their close friends. Since that time, the secret has leaked; the club has steadily gathered steam to the point where it is now almost always bursting at the seams by 11pm. With little to no advertising, the success has all been down to word of mouth from fellow record enthusiasts, DJ’s and club goers who were not content with Toronto clubs that cater to the college crowd. STANDARDS! is for those who fancy REAL rock& roll and not the tired trend of mash-ups and tuneless electro duos from Williamsburg, NY. “There seems to be an almost endless over abundance of neon sweater, PBR swilling, over-sized pink sunglasses nights… which either feature a bad mix of indie/electro & hip hop, sub standard ‘oldies-radio’ classics, country/70’s easy listening novelty nights… or the dreaded combination of all of those things” says Davy, who adds: “To make matters worse… it now seems that anyone with a laptop or an iPod is suddenly a DJ”… “There is a real lack of ‘standards’ these days…”.   “There’s nothing more joyous than the rich sound of vinyl. At STANDARDS! virtually everything we play is on original vinyl 45’s and LP’s; 100% iPod free! I love the feel of vinyl, flipping it over, rolling back the needle and letting her spin.” adds Linda.   At STANDARDS! you will hear a tight mix of punk, new wave, girl-groups, ska, 50’s R&B, northern soul, jangly UK guitar pop, and C86 classics… that are anything but ‘standard’. It is a perfectly cohesive mix of styles for those with more discerning tastes in music and in style. Did we mention that the crowd is also very well dressed?!   STANDARDS! Davy & Linda celebrate the one-year anniversary party with special guest DJ, Sloan’s Jay Ferguson. The Piston, 937 Bloor Street West, Toronto. STANDARDS! occurs with regularity, the first Saturday of every month.
