Lioness unleash “The Golden Killer” April 17th. Friday the 13th release show.
TORONTO, ON - March 7, 2012
Known for their dark dance floor fillers, Lioness broaden the spectrum and release their debut full-length album, The Golden Killer, on New Romantic this April 17, 2012. Produced by Leon Taheny (Owen Pallett, Holy Fuck), the 12 tracks shift between ecstatic dance and heavy rock moods, capturing the Lioness sound and vision: heavy jams you can dance to, draped in mystery and magic; Daft Punk meets Black Sabbath.
During the writing of The Golden Killer the band experienced the loss of two dear friends, Devon Clifford of Vancouver’s You Say Party and Toronto art provocateur Will Munro. Their sudden passing had a profound effect on the band - shaping the album - and exploring themes of loss and a re-evaluation of life. The album closer is the mournful “Stay Awhile”, which stands as an homage to both Devon and Will.
Formed in 2007 by bassist Ronnie Morris and drummer Jeff Scheven (former rhythm section for controller.controller) and vocalist Vanessa Fischer (ex-No Dynamics), Lioness released its self-titled debut EP in 2008, followed by Omens, Oracles and Signs Volumes 1 and 2, featuring remixes by Pilotpriest, Mansion, vitaminsforyou, Kids On TV and others. They toured across Canada and abroad with acts as diverse as You Say Party, k-os and The Cult. Lioness chose Friday (April) the 13th - a fitting day to pull us under their spell with their ferocious live show - to celebrate the release of The Golden Killer at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto.

New Holiday Crowd video for “Pennies Found”
The video, directed by visual artist Matthew Sitler, was filmed entirely on his iPhone using the 8mm App. “Something about the shadows that evening ignited my visual sense. To me, the video is a hymn to the night and all its shaded possibilities.”

New Lioness remix EP on April 27, 2010

For Immediate Release: April 5, 2010
LIONESS - Omens, Oracles and Signs Vol. 2 EP, featuring new remixes of “What You Do Will Come Back To You”.
“What You Do Will Come Back To You” is remixed by five of Canada’s buzz worthy artist/producers, vitaminsforyou, Kids on TV, TMDP, I.S.Morris and the debut of Grahmzilla’s (Thunderheist) new project, Nautiluss. Canada is getting a reputation as a hotbed of talent in the electronic world. Omens, Oracles and Signs Vol. 2 continues to create an archive of this flourishing scene.
Lioness are an art-dance/rock trio fronted by the alluringly mysterious Vanessa Fischer (vocals and synths) and backed by the thunderous rhythms created by Ronnie Morris (bass and synths) and Jeff Scheven (drums and machines). Their sound is a mix of dark electro dance and sinister rock that has been causing hips to sway and heads to turn. “What You Do Will Come Back To You” is a karmic warning we all should heed…
In our electronic age when DIY is the order of the day for new band, Lioness take it one step further by encapsulating their sound and imagery into one aesthetic. They produce the sound as well as craft and direct the costumes, videos, photos and stage sets. They are a post-modernist trio of artists: a director, a costume designer and a scholar. Scheven and Fischer have worked closely as director and designer for the likes of TV on the Radio, Dragonette and Death From Above 1979 as well as on the Lioness videos. The video for “What You Do Will Come Back To You” features vocalist Vanessa Fischer as the Voodoo Queen, along with her sinister biker henchman band mates, Morris and Scheven. Twysted Monroe and Snoopy Monroe from the famed “House Of Monroe” offer their unique brand of voodoo voguing as “The Dead” who are awoken from their dark slumber by Fischer’s haunting voice.
Omens, Oracles and Signs - Vol. 2 is the second single release by Lioness available everywhere digitally on April 27, 2010.

The fusion electronica, acoustic folk and psychedelia can be heard on his latest release he closed his eyes so he could dance with you (Sfeericle Records). Kushnier described his Lioness remix as “John Carpenter/Goblin meets Goblin/John Carpenter”.

TMDP are an electronic duo from Toronto consisting of Jeffrey Addison and Gavin Rough. Their debut album, TDMP (YYZ Records) was released in Spring 2009 to critical acclaim. Nautiluss is the new solo project of Graham Bertie aka GrahmZilla, the production guru behind the banging beats of Thunderheist. For him, Nautiluss represents a more simplified and organic approach to music, less hipster rap & more beats, bass & melody. We’re happy to feature his second ever commercially released “Ides Of March” remix. Watch for exciting things to come from Nautiluss.

Look for a new 7” single; Goodbye Horses out June 18th (Art Metronome) and a full length Kids on TV album Pantheon (Chicks on Speed Records) late summer 2010.

I.S.Morris has played in bands and projects such as A.N.I., Disaster Recovery, Authin Heathen and has recently joined dark electro group Stop Die Resuscitate. As a producer I.S.Morris uses a variety of vintage keyboards, synths, samplers and sound mods, along with layered soft-synths to create gnarling, suspenseful, and energetic dance music.

Sad and smoky boys. Takes me back to Dublin 1991 drinking twoies down by the canal with what they called The Goths. These were not aubergine and corset goths. Always drama, always fighting. Dancing to Fool’s Gold at The Olympia. ~ All I know is ‘Here and Now’.
